Arimidex it is an anti-cancer drug used for the initial treatment of breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

Most breast cancers depend on estrogen hormone for their growth. After menopause, the production of estrogen in the ovaries stops, but it continues in the adipose tissue of the body.

In general, this occurs when the aromatase enzyme converts other enzymes into estrogen.

This type of breast cancer is often called estrogen-positive breast cancer.

Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor. It works by blocking an aromatase enzyme responsible for producing estrogen in the body. Ultimately, this will lead to the reduction of tumor size or slowing of tumor development in some women.

Weightlifters are also targeted by the use of Arimidex for bodybuilding to reduce the effects of androgenic anabolic steroids that often interact with estrogen, leading to gynecomastia, otherwise known as breast hypertrophy in humans.
